Switching food

Never change food in a single day.

An abrupt switch is the most common cause of diarrhoea after a new bag arrives. A seven-day transition solves it for almost every cat and dog:

  1. Days 1-2 25% new food, 75% old food.
  2. Days 3-4 Half and half. Keep an eye on stool quality.
  3. Days 5-6 75% new food. Add wet food if water intake drops.
  4. Day 7 Fully on the new food.

If loose stools last more than two days, step back one stage. If it continues, speak to your vet.
